Scuba Units Are Not Suitable Substitutes for Ventilators
DAN AMERICA UPDATE
DAN has received several inquiries about the use of scuba equipment to aid in the battle against COVID-19. Unfortunately, scuba units are not suitable substitutes for ventilators. Do not attempt to use a non-medical device to try to treat a person with compromised lung function; this could result in severe injury or death of the patient. On March 22, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) issued guidance on using certain safe and effective medical devices to help mitigate shortages of ventilators.
